Review of the agrometeorological situation of August 2, 2019

Frequent and heavy in some areas rains caused an increase of moisture content in soil in most of Belarus in the last decade of July. According to the results of instrumental measurement of soil moisture, there is sufficient content of productive moisture under potato, maize, root crops and herbs in 1,5 and plough layer. Moisture content is increased especially under potato in most of Vitebsk regions and north areas of Mogilev region as well. Deficit of soil moisture was registered in the west and south-west of the country with the least of precipitations – content of productive moisture was low in some areas of Grodno region and in the west of Brest region. Past rains in the end of July fulfilled moisture content in soil in most of Brest region.
In the first decade because of expected rains in the north-east part of the country, areas with overmoistened soils may increase. Unsustainable weather will slow harvest works. Sufficient water availability against low temperatures will contribute to growth and development of root crops and late vegetables in most of the Republic.
