Review of the agrometeorological situation of February 12, 2019

Under the influence of thawing weather in the first decade of February, ice cover melted a little and thickened, it is almost destructed in the south-western region of the Republic. According to recent data, ice cover with height from 5-10 cm to 15-25 cm (in certain northern and eastern areas – up to 30 cm) remains on the fields with overwintering crops on most of Belarus.
Depth of soil freezing is about 2-10 cm, in several areas of Mogilev and Minsk regions soil remains melted. Thickness of frozen soil ranged from 15 cm to 38 cm only in most of Brest region, in the north-west and in certain north-eastern areas. Soil temperature at depth of tillering node of winter cereal crops is held within the limits 0, -1°С which are higher than optimal values. During overwintering increased consumption of nutrients is registered under the snow cover with such soil temperature that may cause sowing weakening. During prevernal period weakened sowings are more vulnerable to drop in temperature, deceases development, particularly, to snow mold. There is an ice crust on soil on few fields  of Minsk, Grodno and Vitebsk regions, but its thickness is not big – 8-14 mm.
In the coming days, agrometeorological conditions for overwintering crops won’t change significantly.
