Review of the agrometeorological situation of July 9, 2019
Predominance of decreased temperature and rains of various intensity increased the duration of spike filling especially of spring crops. According to recent observational data, ripening is observed on the fields with winter cereal crops in most of the country – wax ripeness was registered, complete ripeness was registered in the southern part of the country, mainly in Gomel region, wheat harvest has started on farms. Grain moisture is still increased on observed fields – from 20% to 40% and more, it has decreased up to 15-19% in some areas of southern regions as well as in certain areas of Grodno region and in the south of Mogilev region. Grain filling continues in large parts of the fields with spring cereal crops. Ripeness has started mainly in the southern part of Belarus – wax ripeness was registered on barley and oat, complete ripeness was registered in certain areas of Gomel region. Lodging of cereal crops was observed in some areas of the Republic after torrential rains and heavy wind.
Expected rains will slow drying of grains of cereal crops, complicate harvest of winter rape and cereal crops and silage making. Moreover, rains will contribute to further stock build-up of soil moisture. Deficit of soil moisture still remains in some areas of the Republic. According to recent data of visual observations, 10 cm topsoil is poor moistened according to the information from certain meteorological stations, it is still dry in the west of Brest region and in the south-east of Gomel region.
