Review of the agrometeorological situation of September 19, 2019

Past rains moistened topsoil in many areas of the country. According to recent data of visual observations, 10 cm topsoil is in a well moistened state that was favorable for soil treatment, winter crops sowing, germination and emergence of winter cereal crops seedlings. Topsoil is overmoistened in some areas of Vitebsk region and in the east of Mogilev region where intensive rains have fallen. In the coming days field agricultural works are difficult to carry out here.
Poor moistening is observed in some areas of southern and central parts of the Republic with the driest soil. Soil is still dry at depth of 10 cm in the remote south-west of the country. Conditions are unfavorable for soil treatment and germination of winter cereal crops grain on roughland.
In the coming days, moisture content in soil will increase because of rains. At this time, rains will complicate harvest work. Expected frost can damage maize leaves that will influence silage quality. With the threat of frost hand-dug agricultural crops should not be left without covering on the fields.
