Climate characteristic of July 2018

Average air temperature in Belarus was +19,6°С in July, 2018 which is 1,2°С above climate normal. Most positive anomaly spread in Grodno region (on average across the region +1,7°С), minimum was on the territory of Gomel region (on average across the region +0,6°С).

This month was inhomogeneous with regard to temperature regime. First decade of July 2018 was cool, average decade air temperature was +16,4°С which is 1,5°С below decade climate normal. Second and third decade were warm, their temperature was 1,7°C and 3,2°С above climate normal respectively.

During the whole month except first decade, temperature was in the range +16 to +24°С, it has been rising to +25+28°С in several days, in the end of third decade – to +30°С and higher. Maximum air temperature was registered at the meteorological station Stolbtsy on 29, July.
Air temperature was in the range +17+19°С at night, but in several nights of the beginning of the month it fell up to +10°С. Minimal air temperature was registered at the meteorological station Bragin on2, July (+7,1°С).
The amount of precipitation for June 2018 and the climate normal across the regions and territory of Belarus

There were 148,2 mm of precipitations on average per month representing 175% of normal. July, 2018 took the 4th place in range of meteorological observations for monthly sum of precipitations since 1945. Maximum of precipitations was registered in Mogilev region – 177 mm on average across the region (216% of climatic normal). Minimum of precipitations was in Brest region – 131 mm on average across the region (154% of climatic normal)
During the whole month, excessive conditions of overmoistening were observed. Precipitations fell throughout the entire territory of the Republic of Belarus. Most of precipitations was in the second decade – 68 mm or 239% of climate normal.

Rains were frequent, in general torrential, in certain days they reached criteria of hazard. In Brest 60 mm of precipitations fell in 12 hours on 12 July, 59 mm – in Zhitkovichi on 14 July, 72,8 mm – in Gomel on 21 July. 70 mm of precipitations fell in 3 h 40 min in Kostyukovichi on 22 July, 32 mm fell in 15 min in Zhlobin on 25 July.
Maximum of precipitations per day was beaten in Kostyukovichi on 22 July when 80 mm of precipitations fell. New July record for amount of precipitation was registered in Zhitkovichi – 241 mm per month.
Rains were accompanied by thunderstorms, increase of wind speed to 15 m/s and more and by hailstorm. Hailstorm of 6 mm was registered in Polotsk on 14 July. Maximum wind speed (24 m/s) was registered at the meteorological station Gorki on 29 July.
