Climate characteristic of March 2019


March of 2019 was warm, average monthly temperature was +3,4°С that is 3,2°С above climate normal. Such warm March is once every 10-13 years in Belarus. Positive anomaly spread smoothly throughout the country (from 3,0 to 3,2°С).

During the month, average air temperature was mainly positive except its first half when dropped up to negative values and in the coldest days – up to -5°С and lower. Minimum of air temperature (-13,5°С) was registered at the station Ezerishche on March, 2. Maximum air temperature (+18,8°С) was registered in Bragin on March, 31.
All decades of the month were warm, but the first one was respectively the warmest when average air temperature was 4,2°С above climate normal. In the 2nd and 3rd decades, deviation of average air temperature from climate normal was 2,7°С and 2,6°С respectively.

36,3 mm of precipitation fell on average in Belarus that is 93% of climate normal. Most of the precipitations was registered in Grodno region – 45,3 mm on average across the region or 113% of climate normal. Least of the precipitations was registered in Gomel region – 31,6 mm on average across the region or 83% of climate normal.

During the month, precipitations spread erratic in Belarus. 1st and 2nd decades were wet with 133% and 122% of climate normal of precipitations respectively. In the 3rd decade there was a deficit of precipitations – 29% of climate normal.

Snow cover was observed mainly in the first half of March. Under the influence of warm weather it was completely destructed in the second half of March except certain days when because of drop in temperature and precipitations it appears in a form of snow for a short period of time in certain areas of the country. There was intense wind with gusts up to 20-25 m/s on certain days of March, maximum wind speed (25 m/s) was registered in Gorki on March, 22. Fogs and glaze-ice and rime deposition were observed in certain regions.
