Overview of agrometeorological situation of July 9, 2020
The agrometeorological conditions for corn growth and development this year are controversial. Reduced temperature this spring restrained emergence of seedlings and their further development. Prevalence of warm weather and presence of soil moisture in most areas contributed green mass growth in June and early July. Accumulated sum of effective temperatures above + 10 ° С for the period from May to July 8 is lower past year, corn leaf formation continues according to the latest observations. There is a lag from last year in corn development. Visual assessments of crops state in fields are mostly good.
Passing rains maintain sufficient moisture supply to plants. Prevailing temperature regime is expected to be lower than optimal for corn crop formation in the near future, which will again slow down heat-loving crop development.
