Review of the agrometeorological situation of May 11, 2019

Past heavy rains on most of the territory of the Republic of Belarus liquidated deficit of soil moisture. Agrometeorological conditions for emergence of seedlings and further development of spring crops, formation of productivity of spiked cereals, acquisition of vegetative herbs mass ameliorated. According to the results of instrumental moisture determination of soil under agricultural crops, content of productive moisture is sufficient, in some areas of Minsk region, in the east of Vitebsk region and in the north of Mogilev region – increased. However, there is still deficit of soil moisture in the western and south-western parts of the country where past rains weren’t heavy. Content of productive moisture under winter cereal crops, winter rape and perennial herbs is not sufficient in certain areas.
According to recent data of visual observations, 10 cm topsoil is well-moistened, waterlogged in some areas of eastern part of Belarus. It is difficult to finish sowings of spring crops on the over-moistened sites. However, there is still poor moistening of topsoil in the western part of Grodno region and in the west of Brest and Vitebsk regions.
In the coming days, temperature increase and sufficient water availability will contribute to growth of agricultural crops on most of the country.
