Climate characteristic of November, 2022

The average air temperature in Belarus in November 2022 was +2.0°C, which is 0.4°C higher than the climatic norm.

Mostly throughout the country, a positive anomaly of air temperature was noted, which varied mainly in the range from 0.1 to 1.0°C, reaching the highest values in the southeast of the country. A slight negative anomaly was noted in the extreme northeast.
In the regional section, the highest values of positive deviations of air temperature from the climatic norm were noted in the Gomel region (+0.8ºС), the smallest – in the Brest region (+0.1ºС).

The first decade was very warm with a positive anomaly equal to 2.5C°. The average temperature of the second decade was close to the norm (0.2°C above the climatic norm). The third decade was cold with a negative anomaly equal to -1.5°C.

The air temperature during the day during the month was mainly -4 +14°C. The air temperature reached its maximum value (+14.4°C) on the afternoon of November 13 at Zhitkovichi station.
The air temperature at night during the month was mainly in the range of -12 +9°С. The minimum air temperature was recorded at Polesskaya station on November 20 and amounted to -12.8°С.

During the month, an average of 48.1 mm of precipitation fell in the republic, which amounted to 105% of the climatic norm. Precipitation across the country was distributed unevenly. There was an increase in the amount of precipitation from west to east from 50-70% to 150% or more of the climatic norm, respectively.
In the regions, the most precipitation was recorded on the territory of the Mogilev and Gomel regions – an average of 66.4 and 65.1 mm or 146% and 143% of the norm, respectively. Least of all – in the territory of the Grodno and Brest regions – 23.9 and 26.5 mm or 53 and 63% of the norm, respectively, where November became one of 10 driest months since 1945.

During the month, the moistening conditions were heterogeneous. During the first decade and the second decade, there was a shortage of precipitation: on average, 14.1 and 10.6 mm fell in the country, or 83 and 71% of the climatic norm of precipitation. In the third decade, there was an excess of precipitation: on average, 23.3 mm or 170% of the climatic norm of precipitation fell throughout the country.

At the end of the second decade, a snow cover was established, with a height on the last day of the month from 0.1 cm in Pruzhany to 28 cm in Gorki. Throughout the month, fogs were observed throughout the country at night and in the morning, in some places – ice. In some areas, there was an increase in wind speed with gusts of up to 15 m/s or more. The maximum wind speed was recorded at Oshmyany station on November 12 and amounted to 17 m/s.
