Climate characteristic of October, 2022

 
The average air temperature in Belarus for October 2022 was +8.9°C, which is 2.1 °C higher than the climatic norm. October of this year was the fourth warmest since 1945.

A positive anomaly of air temperature was observed throughout the country, varying mainly in the range from 1.0 to 3.0 ° C, in the direction from the northeast and east to west.
In the regional context, the highest values of positive deviations of air temperature from the climatic norm were noted in the Grodno region (+2.5 °C), the lowest – in Mogilev (+1.7 ° C).

The average temperature of the first decade was close to normal (0.3 ° C above the climatic norm). The second and third decades were warm with a positive anomaly equal to 1.7 °C and 4.2 °C, respectively.

The daytime temperature during the month was mostly +7 +20 °C. The maximum value (+22.6 ° C) air temperature reached in the afternoon of October 18 at the Vasilevichi station.
The air temperature at night during the month was mostly within +1 +12 °C. On the coldest nights, the air temperature dropped to negative values in some places. The minimum air temperature was recorded at the Yezerishche station on October 23 and was -3.7 °C.

During the month, an average of 75.1 mm of precipitation fell in the republic, which amounted to 138% of the climatic norm. Precipitation spread unevenly across the country. There was an increase in precipitation from the west and northwest to the south and southeast from 80-90 to 150-230% of the climatic norm, respectively. 
By regions, the most precipitation was recorded in the Gomel region – on average 96.9 mm or 175% of the norm. Least of all – in the Grodno and Brest regions – 62.4 and 62.5 mm or 121 and 140% of the norm, respectively.

During the month, the humidification conditions were heterogeneous. During the first decade, conditions of excessive humidification were noted: on average, 54.8 mm or 274% of the climatic norm of precipitation fell across the country. In the second and third decades, there was a shortage of precipitation: on average, 8.6 and 11.7 mm, or 56 and 62% of the climatic norm of precipitation, respectively, fell across the country.

Throughout the month, fogs were observed throughout the country at night and in the morning, in places – ice and sleet. In some areas, there was an increase in wind speed with gusts up to 15 m/s or more. The maximum wind speed was recorded at the Gorki station on October 31 and was 21 m/s.
