World Environment Day
On June 5, the world community annually celebrates World Environment Day. This holiday, like other environmental dates, is held with the aim of drawing public attention to such phenomena as natural disasters, declining biodiversity, new diseases that are the result of our relationship to the environment. Maybe in the course of the daily routine of affairs, problems and their own worries, a person does not notice how his actions cause irreparable harm to the environment. That is why there are such dates - to stop, think and take certain actions to minimize the negative impact on the environment.
In Belarus, environmental protection issues are dealt with by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, which is the ancestor of a large number of environmental initiatives. Belhydromet, as an organization subordinate to the Ministry of Natural Resources, makes a great contribution to the study of environmental problems, as it monitors surface water, atmospheric air, participates in monitoring lands, and also monitors radioactive contamination of the environment. The tasks of Belhydromet are also to ensure the radiation safety of the population, to conduct radiation monitoring as part of the National Environmental Monitoring System in the Republic of Belarus and to carry out operational control and forecasting of the zones of spread of radioactive contamination.
Based on the results of the work carried out, the population and government bodies are provided with environmental information and information obtained from the results of monitoring the radioactive contamination of the environment.
