Ongoing rains of varying intensity are replenishing soil moisture reserves. The areas with insufficient moisture across the territory of the republic are decreasing. According to visual observation data as of the morning of August 18, good moisture conditions are observed mainly in the west and northwest of Belarus. In a significant part of the southeastern half of the country, a soil moisture deficit still persists – the upper 10-centimeter layer remains poorly moistened or dried out. In these areas, tillage for sowing winter grain crops and winter rapeseed is hampered.
In the coming days, under the influence of expected rainfall, the moisture supply for agricultural crops will improve. At the same time, heavy precipitation in some places may lead to waterlogging of the soil, which will complicate field work.
