The agrometeorological conditions for soil cultivation, the sowing of grain crops that has begun, and the development of winter rapeseed have improved. The rains that fell increased the moisture content in the soil, most significantly in the northern half of the country. On the predominant territory of the republic, the upper 10-centimeter soil layer is well moistened; in a number of districts of Vitebsk region, waterlogging is noted. In places in the southern districts, where less precipitation fell, a moisture deficit in the soil persists.
In the near future, mostly rainless weather will cause soil moisture loss, and areas with insufficient moistening will expand. At the same time, the conditions for harvesting potatoes and sugar beet and for the ripening of corn grain will develop quite favorably.
