BSU students on a tour at Belhydromet

On October 15, Belhydromet became a venue for the practical part of the academic discipline "Monitoring of Atmospheric Air and the Hydrosphere": second-year students of the "Hydrometeorology" specialty of the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformatics of the Belarusian State University visited the institution on a tour.
The introduction to the work of the state hydrometeorological service began with the Museum of the History of the Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Belarus. Here, students had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the history of the development of hydrometeorological observations in the country and to see unique exhibits telling about the glorious pages of the service's formation. The museum part concluded with an interactive quiz on meteorology.

After visiting the Belhydromet museum, the group continued its acquaintance with advanced meteorological technologies by heading to the Doppler meteorological radar. This modern complex represents a powerful tool for monitoring atmospheric phenomena. Familiarization with the Doppler meteorological radar allowed the students to gain a deeper understanding of modern methods of meteorological observation and forecasting.

The excursion participants then moved on to the Environmental Information Service and the structural subdivisions of the Environmental Monitoring Service. Here, the theory studied at the university took on real shape: students saw how the daily process of monitoring the quality of atmospheric air and water bodies is organized, and became acquainted with the principles of sampling, methods of laboratory analysis, and data processing. Belhydromet specialists spoke about the existing observation networks, standards and criteria for assessing the state of the environment, as well as how monitoring results are used for making management decisions and informing the public.
Particular interest among the students was aroused by the modern tools and equipment used in the work. A practical look at these processes helps future hydrometeorologists better understand the specifics of the profession and the requirements placed on specialists in this field.

The tour became an important link in the training of personnel for the industry: it not only supplemented academic knowledge with applied experience, but also allowed students to see the scale and significance of Belhydromet's work in ensuring environmental security and sustainable development of the Republic of Belarus.
