Mother's Day: a holiday of warmth, care, and family values

Today, on 14 October, Belarus celebrates Mother's Day – a holiday filled with special warmth and gratitude to those who give us life, love, and support from the very first moments.

It is symbolic that Mother's Day coincides with the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos – a bright holiday that has long embodied protection, care, and that very maternal warmth that shelters each of us. On this day, we say "thank you" to our mothers with particular warmth, recalling their selfless love and the invisible support they create for the whole family.

In 2026, Mother's Day is celebrated for the 30th time. This date opens the Week of Parental Love, which will last until 21 October. The week will end with Father's Day – in 2026, it is celebrated for the 5th time.

At Belhydromet, trade union campaigns "Let's congratulate Mom together!" and "Let's congratulate Dad together!" have already started. Anyone who wishes can send touching greetings to family and friends in an envelope absolutely free of charge. This is a simple but very heartfelt way to say important words to loved ones and give them a piece of your warmth. Give warmth to those who are always there!

The Week of Parental Love is a great occasion to take a look at the portrait of modern Belarusian parents and see how family traditions and approaches to upbringing are changing.

Portrait of a Mother
The average Belarusian mother is a married city dweller with a higher or secondary specialized education, raising two children and working in trade or education. At the same time, motherhood is gradually "growing older": today the average age of a woman at the birth of her first child is 27.6 years, and at the birth of a second and subsequent children – 30.5 years. The majority of mothers – 84% of women of reproductive age – live in cities, 16% – in rural areas.

Portrait of a Father
The portrait of a modern Belarusian father is in many ways a mirror image: he is a married city dweller with an education, who also, as a rule, has two children. The differences lie in the professional sphere: men more often work in manufacturing or construction. The average age of entering a first marriage for men is 29 years, for women – 26.7 years.

An interesting fact: under the age of 39 in Belarus, there are more men than women – for every 1000 women there are 1016 men.

Family is not only personal stories, but also the foundation of society, a source of strength and inspiration. For Belhydromet specialists, whose work is closely connected with observations, precision, and care for people's well-being, family values are especially significant: after all, it is for the peace of mind and confidence of our loved ones that we strive to do our work as responsibly and conscientiously as possible.

The Belhydromet team wholeheartedly congratulates all mothers on Mother's Day! May your hearts always be warmed by the love of your children, and may every day be filled with joy, harmony, and gratitude.

Happy holiday!
