Climate characteristic of April 2020

Average air temperature of April in the Republic of Belarus was 6,8°С, that is 0,5°С below climate normal. Negative anomaly spread out all over the country, reached highest values in Mogilev region (-0,8°С). Smallest negative deviations from climate normal were observed in Grodno and Brest regions (-0,2°С).

Temperature regime was uneven during three decades. Average air temperature for the first decade was +6,2°С, that is 1,3°С climate normal. Second and third decades were colder than usual (2,1° и 0,7°С respectively). Daily temperatures mainly exceeded ten-degree mark, air temperature increased up to +15 + 20 ° С and higher on the warmest days in the afternoon. Maximum air temperature was recorded at Vasilevichi station on April 29 and was +26.3°С.

Nights were cold and temperature mainly ranged from -8 to +4°С, +5°С and above in separate days. The lowest temperature for the month -8,4°С was registered on  Polesskaya station on April 12.  
13,1 mm of precipitation or  33,6% of climate normal fell out in April.  April 2020 took 4th place in a ranked series of observations from the driest to the wettest month .The driest month is April 2019 with an average of 7.0 mm of precipitation.

Deficit of moistening was observed all over the country. Vitebsk and Mogilev regions turned out to be the most moistened, where 16.9 mm of precipitation fell out, that is 44 and 42% of climate normal respectively. The most dry region is Gomel. 7.9 mm of precipitation or 19% of climate normal norm fell out during the month.

Throughout the month, Thunderstorms were observed on separate days, hail, fog, ice were observed at the beginning of the month. Maximum wind gusts reached 15 m/s. Maximum wind speed was registered in  Verhnedvinsk on April 3 and 16 (24 m/s) and Slavgorod (24 m/s) on April 16.
