Due to colder weather, agrometeorological conditions have become more difficult. Over the past few nights, frosts have been observed in many regions of the country, posing a risk of low-temperature damage to plants.
Across most of Belarus, the top 10-centimeter layer of soil is well moistened, allowing farms to carry out the full range of spring field work. However, the area with insufficient soil moisture has expanded in recent days – windy weather, contrasting temperature conditions, and low relative air humidity are contributing to moisture loss from the upper soil layers.
Expected precipitation in the near future should moisten the topsoil horizon. Nevertheless, the lower temperature regime will restrain the growth and development of agricultural crops and fruit plantings. The threat of nighttime frosts will persist.
