The passing rains replenish soil moisture reserves most significantly in the northeastern half of Belarus. By morning on May 27, 2025, strong wetting is observed in Vitebsk, Gomel regions, many districts of Minsk region, some areas of Mogilev region and northern parts of Grodno region with excessive wetness noted in isolated areas of topsoil. In the near future rainfall may increase the area with over-moistened soils.
In the southwestern part of the country the upper 10-centimeter layer of soil remains moderately moist. However, temperatures here remain below climatic norms due to insufficient accumulation of effective heat which slows down the development of heat-loving crops. Warm weather prevails in the eastern part of the republic, creating favorable conditions for the growth of vegetative mass and productivity formation in cereal crops, regrowth of grasses, stem elongation of flax and emergence of late crop seedlings.
