Review of the agrometeorological situation of March 21, 2019

According to recent agrometeorological observations, soil is completely melted almost across all the country. Subfreezing of topsoil is observed in certain areas because of drop in the night temperatures up to negative values. Frozen layer of 10 cm remains in the extreme east of Vitebsk region. As at March 21, small snow cover appeared in the morning in some areas of Mogilev region and in the east of Minsk region. Topsoil of 10 cm is still waterlogged in most of the areas, excessive moistening is observed on heavy soils in places in Vitebsk and Mogilev regions. Only selective agricultural fieldwork is possible here. Topsoil of 10 cm dried out up to moderate moistened state in the Gomel region, most of the Brest region and in some areas of southern part of Minsk region. According to recent observational data, average soil temperature at depth of 10 cm is +4+6°С in southern regions of the country. Soil treatment, fertilizer distribution, agrotechnical activities for winter crops handling is carried out on dried sites, sowing of early spring crops has started.
In the coming days, agrometeorological conditions will contribute to soil drying. However, expected cooling will slow its further ripeness in the last 5 days of March.
