Climate characteristic of July 2023

The average air temperature in Belarus for July 2023 was +18.6°C, which is lower than the climatic norm by -0.3°C.

For the most part of the country there was a negative anomaly of air temperature which was mainly in the range from -0.1 to -1.0°C or more. In the south, southwest and east of the country, positive anomaly was observed from +0.1 to +0.8°C.
In the regional context the highest values of negative deviations of air temperature from the climatic norm were noted in Vitebsk region (-0.7°C), the lowest – in Grodno region (-0.1°C). In Brest region the deviations were positive (+0.2°C).

The first and second decades were warm with positive anomaly equal to 0.8 and 0.3°C respectively. The third decade of the month was cold with negative anomaly equal to -1.8°C.

The air temperature during the day during the month was mainly +20 +29°C, and on the warmest days it rose to +30°C or more. The maximum value (+34.3°C) air temperature reached on July, 17 at the Lelchitsy station.
The air temperature at night was mostly in the range of +10 +19°C, and on the coldest nights, mainly at the beginning of the second decade, in some places it dropped to +5 +9°C. The minimum air temperature was recorded at the Yezerishche station on July, 13 and was +3.9°C.

During the month, an average of 85.9 mm of precipitation fell in the republic, which amounted to 96% of the climatic norm. Precipitation spread unevenly across the country. For the most part of the republic there was a shortage of precipitation. In the north-east, east, central part and south of the country 100-200% of the precipitation norm for the month fell. At the stations of Orsha and Mstislavl the historical daily maximums of precipitation have been updated.

In regions, most precipitations were recorded on the territory of Mogilev region – an average of 109.5 mm or 125% of the norm in the region. Least of all – on the territory of Grodno region – 62.4 mm or 70% of the norm.

During the first and second decades there was a shortage of precipitation: 18.2 and 18.8 mm of precipitation fell or 61% of the decadal norm. In the third decade - 48.6 mm or 168% of the norm fell.

Precipitation fell in the form of rains. Thunderstorms were observed everywhere, in some areas – hail with the diameter of up to 13 mm (Polotsk), at night and in the morning – fogs. In some places there was an increase in wind speed with gusts up to 15 m/s or more. The maximum wind speed for the month was registered at the stations Klichev (July,18) and Polesskaya (July, 20) and amounted to 23 m/s.
