Overview of hydrological situation of March, 18 2024

In the past period (March 16-17), on the Neman tributary of the Shchara River near Slonim, the water level dropped below a dangerously high level.
As of March 18, on the Vilia, the Dniper, the Berezina, the Sozh and the Pripyat, there is a decrease (up to 8 cm per day) in water levels and their smooth course. Fluctuations in water levels with a daily intensity of 1-27 cm are observed on the Western Dvina and the Neman. Most rivers have floodplain water.
Water levels reach dangerously high levels on the tributaries of the Pripyat, the Ptich rivers near the village of Persha Slobodka and the Sluch near agrotown  Lenin, and they are exceeded on the Sozh by Gomel, the Pripyat by the village Chernichi and by the town Petrikov.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, flooding of coastal territories is noted in most areas of the Gomel and Mogilev regions, in some areas of the Brest, Grodno and Minsk regions.
Freeze-up with polynyas and rims is still preserved on the Western Dvina near the town of Surazh. On the reservoirs Chigirinskoye, Vileyskoye, lakes Naroch, Lukomskoye and Drivyaty, ice formation with polynyas and rims is observed, the ice changes its structure, darkens and melts in place.
In the coming days, minor fluctuations in water levels will be observed on the rivers of the country, and the water level will drop below a dangerously high level on the Sozh near Gomel.
