Announcement: Press Conference "Chernobyl: from recovery to sustainable development"
On April 26, 2026, the 40th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant will be commemorated.
This date is an opportunity to assess the work accomplished aimed at minimizing the consequences of radioactive contamination of territories, as well as to emphasize the importance of continuous monitoring of the radiation situation for the early warning of government bodies and the public to ensure the timely implementation of protective measures.
The press conference will address the comprehensive social protection measures for the population, including medical support, benefits, and compensation. Special attention will be paid to the sustainable development of the affected territories, the restoration of the natural environment, and their integration into economic activity.
The event will be attended by representatives of the State institution "Republican center for hydrometeorology, control of radioactive contamination and environmental monitoring"; the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus; the Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Ministry of Emergency Situations; the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus; the Mogilev and Gomel Regional Executive Committees; and the Polesie State Radiation-Ecological Reserve.
The press conference will take place on April 23, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the "House of the Press" Press Center.
The organizers will provide a live broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Republican Unitary Enterprise "House of the Press".
