Representatives of Belhydromet, as part of the Pervomaisky District delegation, visited the memorial "To Children – Victims of War" in Krasny Bereg

On June 22, the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People, a delegation from the Pervomaisky District of the city of Minsk, which included representatives of Belhydromet, made a trip to the agro-town of Krasny Bereg.

The purpose of the visit was to pay tribute at the memorial complex "To Children – Victims of War" – one of the most sorrowful and poignant sites on the map of our country.

The very name of the complex evokes profound emotion. During the occupation, the Nazis established a monstrous concentration camp in Krasny Bereg. Its prisoners were children, from whom blood was forcibly taken for the needs of German military hospitals. These young lives, cut short by the cruellest hand of history, stand as silent testimony to unimaginable atrocities.

Of particular and indelible impression on visitors was the composition "The Dead Class." Twenty-one white desks, arranged in a blooming apple orchard, symbolize the children's places that have remained empty forever. No one will ever sit behind them again. On a black chalkboard, the deathbed letter-testament of 15-year-old Katya Susanina to her father is reproduced. The lines, filled with a child's pain and a call for retribution, pierce straight to the heart: "Dear Daddy! I am writing you this letter from a German penal servitude. When you, Daddy, read this letter, I will no longer be alive… I bequeath to you, Daddy, to avenge Mother and me…"

The memorial complex, designed by the Honoured Architect of Belarus Leonid Levin and opened in 2007, is intended to eternally commemorate those who fell victim to the most terrible war. Visiting such places is not merely an excursion; it is our civic duty, a conscious contribution to the preservation of historical memory, so that the tragic pages of the past may never be repeated.
