Review of the river water regime in August

In August, a predominantly declining water level and a steady course were observed on the country's rivers. Unfavorable conditions for river transport operations were observed on the Western Dvina near Vitebsk, the Neman near Grodno, the Dnieper near Mogilev, Zhlobin and the urban settlement of Loyev, the Berezina near Bobruisk and Svetlogorsk, the Sozh near Krichev, Slavgorod and Gomel, and the Pripyat near the village of Chernichi and Mozyr. On the Ross River, a tributary of the Neman, near the village of Studenets, the water level exceeded the mark of water outflow onto the floodplain.

The water content of the Neman, Viliya, Dnieper, Berezina and Sozh is close to the usual for this time of year and somewhat lower, the water content of the Western Dvina is 40–50% below normal, and the water content of the Pripyat is significantly reduced, being 70% below normal.

On the Pripyat near Pinsk and Petrikov, as well as its tributaries the Pina, Yaselda, Goryn and Ubort rivers, the lowest water level values for the summer-autumn low-water period over the entire observation period are being observed.

Currently, on most rivers a slight decline in water levels and their steady course are observed. On the Ross River, a tributary of the Neman, the water level is above the mark of water outflow onto the floodplain.

On the navigable sections of the Western Dvina, Neman, Dnieper, Berezina, Sozh and Pripyat, difficulties in river transport operations are being observed.

Forecast information on minimum water levels in September

The minimum water levels on most rivers are forecast to be close to the lowest long-term values for this time of year, while on the Pripyat and in the lower reaches of the Sozh, minimum water levels are expected to be below the multi-year observation period minima for September.
